Teachers have the ability to revolutionize the educational experience using the blogosphere.
“Edublogs,” put simply, are blogs that discuss matters related to the classroom. They can be instructional, discuss educational policy, and be read by teachers, administrators and even parents.
They enable teachers to publish their likes and dislikes, as well as insights and discoveries they’ve made on their teaching journeys. Edublogs encourage collaboration by providing a forum for teachers to share lesson plans and advice.
Not all schools embrace the use of blogs by their faculty members; in fact, many want nothing to do with their staff maintaining personal blogs. But despite the occasional instance of misuse, most teachers who take up blogging do it to benefit their classrooms.
Another simple use—and possibly the most effective use of teacher blogs—is to share classroom stories. This includes successes and frustrations. To view some exemplary teacher blogs, check out Edutopia’s Top 10 Edublogs. Hopefully they’ll inspire you to start your own. Finally, don’t forget to take into consideration the things not to do when edublogging.
