I cover the entertainment beat for our site, and while the Internet can be entertaining, I know that my job extends to covering real activities. So I’ve signed up for a bunch of alert services through entertainment Web sites, and a quick scan of my e-mail helps me find something to do after work or on weekends. Here are some of my favorites:
Going serves 25 U.S cities. The site sends me an e-mail with all the events happening every week in my city, including concerts, exhibits and city-sponsored entertainment; plus, it hooks me up with smaller groups who want to create their own activities.
Metromix serves a different set of 25 U.S. cities. When you sign up for the newsletter, you’ll get information about big events like concerts, as well as little stuff like cool restaurant openings. Metromix covers restaurants, bars, movies, theater and style for every city it reports on.
DailyCandy covers “hot new restaurants, designers, secret nooks, and charming diversions” for 11 U.S. cities, and also has an “everywhere” newsletter that covers events happening all over the country. If you can’t wait to try the best cupcake in your city or hit up a sample sale, Daily Candy is for you.

This is great. I currently get Urban Daddy daily emails, but I'm gonna sign up for all three of these, too!
