I stumbled across this YouTube clip from "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?," cleverly titled by the provider: "Dumb American Blonde." It made me cringe. Most American students have been denied geography as a solid core curriculum requirement; I hope to remedy that at even the most basic level by spotlighting a few great sites for some DIY learning. While the sites below may seem to appeal to a younger audience, the quizzes can be tailored to any age or experience level.
Lizardpoint offers trivia quizzes sorted by continent and topic. Test your knowledge of U.S. state capitals. Too easy? Try learning the capitals of African countries instead.
Funbrain has five levels of quizzes. Test yourself or compete against another player. At the most difficult level, you'll have to identify countries by location and then name the capitals.
Action quiz has you compete against the computer. Multiple-choice quiz questions vary from naming the highlighted country to identifying country flags.
If you care about geography, but don't have the time to play games, you can always buy a world map shower curtain and quiz yourself every time you brush your teeth.
